常用易混词汇辨析

because/because of

（1）用法辨析:

because:“因为”，是连词，其后接句子

because of:“因为”，是复合介词，其后接名词、代词、动名词、

what 从句等

（2）例句:

He didn't come because he was ill. 因为病了, 他没来。

We have to put off the meeting because of the bad weather. 因

为天气不好，我们不得不推迟会议。

be afraid that/be afraid of

（1）用法辨析:

be afraid that:“恐怕…”，后接宾语从句，表示带有歉意的回

话或引出令人不满意的消息

be afraid of:“害怕做某事”，后接名词、代词、动名词

（2）例句:

I'm afraid that I can't help you. 我恐怕帮不了你的忙。

I am afraid of going out at night. 我害怕晚上出去。

big/large/great/huge

（1）用法辨析:

big:侧重于表示物体的块头、重量，含有庞大、笨重的意思，其反

义词是 little

large:侧重表示物体的宽度和数量，有广阔和众多的含义，其反

义词是 small

great:常表示“伟大的”，带有一定的感情色彩

huge:表示“巨大的；极大的”，修饰具体事物，指规格数额超常

（2）例句:

This coat is too big for her. 这件上衣对她来说太大了。

China is a large country. 中国是一个幅员辽阔的国家。

Einstein is a great scientist. 爱因斯坦是位伟大的科学家。

The earth is a huge ball. 地球是一个巨大的球。

below/under

（1）用法辨析:

below:“在…的下面”，所指范围较广，不一定在某物的正下

方，其反义词是 above

under:“在…的下面”，所指范围较窄，往往表示在某物的正

下方，其反义词是 over

（2）例句:

From the top of the mountain, we could see the whole village

below us. 从山顶上，我们可以看见下面乡村的全貌。

There is a cat under the table. 桌子底下有只猫。

between/among

（1）用法辨析:

between:“在…之间”，用于表示双方之间的关系

among:“在…之间”，用于表示三个或三个以上之间的关系

（2）例句:

There is a tree between the two houses. 这两座房子之间有一

棵树。

London is among the greatest cities of the world. 伦敦是世界

上最大的城市之一。

another/the other/other/others/the others

（1）用法辨析:

another:指不定数目中的“另一个，又一个”

the other: 指两个中的"另一个"

other:泛指“另外的”，修饰复数名词

others:泛指“另外的人或物”，但不指其余的人或物的全部

the others:特指某一范围内的“其余全部的人或物”

（2）例句:

I don't think the coat is good enough. Can you show me another one ? 我认为这件上衣不够好。你能给我看另一件吗?

as/when/while (1)用法辨析:

as:“当（在）…时候”，往往可与when或while通用，但它着重 指主句和从句的动作或事情同时发生

when:“当（在）…的时候”，主句和从句的动作或事情可以同 时发生，也可以先后发生

while:“当（在）…的时候”，表主句的动作或事情发生在从句 中的动作或事情的进展过程之中。从句通常用进行时态 （2）例句:

I saw him as he was getting off the bus. 他下公共汽车的时候, 我看见了他。

It was raining when we arrived. 当我们到达的时候, 正下着雨。

Please don't talk so loud while others are working. 别人在工 作的时候, 请勿大声讲话。

borrow/lend (1)用法辨析:

borrow:“借”，是以“我”为中心“借进”的意思，常与from连用 lend:“借”，意为“借出”，常跟介词 to 搭配

（2）例句:

I've borrowed two books from the library. 我从图书馆借了两 本书。

Can you lend your dictionary to me? 能把你的字典借给我吗?

bring/take/fetch/carry (1)用法辨析:

bring:“带来”，指把某物从别的地方带到说话人的这个地方来 take:“带走”，即把某物带到别的地方去

fetch:“去取来某物”，它包括一个往返的过程

carry:一般指“随身携带的细小物品”，此外还多用于汽车、火车 等交通工具，意为“运载”的意思 （2）例句:

Remember to bring your book tomorrow. 记得明天把你的书 带来。

It's going to rain. You'd better take an umbrella with you. 要 下雨了。你最好带上一把雨伞。

Will you go and fetch some water? 你去取一点水来, 好吗?

The bus carried me to the park yesterday. 昨天公共汽车把我 载到了公园。

beat/win

（1）用法辨析:

beat:“打败…”，后接的宾语一般为人或相当于人的名词 win:一般后接物或比赛作宾语 （2）例句:

We beat Class Four in the football match yesterday. 昨天足球 赛我们打败了四班。

We won the football game. 我们赢得了足球赛的胜利。

because/since/for

（1）用法辨析:

because:“因为”，表直接而明确的原因或理由，即必然的因果

关系

since:“既然”，比as正式，说明为人所知的原因，语气比because

稍弱

for:“因为”，表原因或理由时，用以说明理由，只是解释性的

（2）例句:

He had to stay at home yesterday because he was ill. 昨天他只

得待在家里，因为他病了。

Since he can't answer the question, you'd better ask someone

else. 既然他回答不了这个问题，你最好问问别人。

It must have rained, for the road is wet. 一定下过雨了, 因为

路是湿的。

be made of/be made from

（1）用法辨析:

be made of:“由…制成”，成品看得出原料

be made from:“由…制成”，成品看不出原料

（2）例句:

The desk is made of wood. 这张桌子是木头制成的。

Paper is made from rags. 纸是由破布做成的。

by/with/in

（1）用法辨析:

by:“以…方式（方法、手段）”

with:“借助于具体的手段或工具”

in:“以…方式，用某种语言”

（2）例句:

He goes to school by bike. 他骑自行车上学。

Jim is climbing the tree with a ladder. 吉姆用梯子爬树。
